Lawrence Athenaeum & Mining Institute Ordinance
The Ordinances were created when the Government of the Province of Otago gifted land to establish an income for the Lawrence Athenaeum & Mining Institute, aimed at the education and betterment of miners and their families. The Athenaeum was founded prior to the establishment of local administrations to manage public affairs, hence necessitating the creation of the Ordinances.
